Friends of Champions 12.3 India Network brings together like-minded companies and organizations to align their efforts and build collaborative agenda for reducing food loss and food waste in India. Friends of Champions 12.3 India network is led by WRI India with support from FOLU India. It works towards spearheading actions that can help reduce food loss and food waste through multi-stakeholder collaborations and leadership from governments, businesses, and civil society in India. The Network aims to inspire ambition and mobilize action across food supply chains, continuing the global movement led by Champions 12.3 for achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Target 12.3 by 2030.
As SDG 12 seeks to ensure sustainable consumption and food production patterns, Target 12.3 under this goal calls for halving per capita food waste at the retail and consumer level while also reducing food losses along food production and supply chains, including post-harvest losses, by 2030. Inspiring and enabling action on reducing food loss and food waste in India: Connect Karo 2023
This session on ‘Inspiring and enabling action on reducing food loss and food waste in India’ was organized as part of the Connect Karo 2023 event by WRI India, focused on highlighting food loss and food waste reduction as a critical step for addressing issues of food and nutrition security, environmental impacts and economic losses. Engaging with diverse set of experts, the session included cross-learning on best practices and collaborative strategies while sharing key recommendations from India’s latest Think20 (T20) Policy Brief on Reducing Food loss and Waste published by T20 India.

This session on ‘Accelerating Food System Transformation in India: A Fork-to-Farm Approach’ was hosted by Food and Land Use Coalition – FOLU India at Connect Karo 2023. Dr. Nitya Sharma and Dr. Seema Yadav from WRI India’s Food, Land and Water program participated as panelists. While Dr. Nitya spoke about inspiring and mobilizing action towards reducing food loss and food waste through Friends of Champions 12.3 Network in India, Dr. Seema presented on scope and challenges of urban and peri-urban agriculture in the Indian context and the need for developing shorter and efficient food supply chains.
