Sustainable and Regenerative Agriculture

Food and nutrition security are emerging as two of the key challenges for India as stress on land and other natural resources such as water, continue to increase with the rise in population and more intensive agricultural practices. The limited availability of these resources and their degrading quality necessitates a shift from the current farming practices towards more sustainable and regenerative agriculture. Through the adoption of pathways and farming practices that improve the quality and productivity of these agricultural resources. Integrated farming systems with built-in circularity form a part of the solution that can provide livelihood and nutrition security coupled with climate resilience. Further, ensuring adequate diversity of food production keeping in view the agroclimatic conditions is not only key to sustainability but also nutritional security. Simultaneous efforts are needed towards enabling access to agricultural inputs and other infrastructure, value chains, and market linkages.

FOLU India supports improvement of agricultural production systems through measures on a broad front, while maintaining a two-pronged focus on maximising the potential of rainfed agriculture systems and transforming irrigated agriculture into a sustainable and resource-efficient system.
